Goodbye, Center for Talent Reporting

Goodbye, Center for Talent Reporting

On December 27th, ROI Institute will become the new home for Talent Development Reporting Principles (TDRP), and the Center for Talent Reporting (CTR) will be dissolved.

Peggy Parskey and I founded CTR in September 2012, following two years of work to create TDRP with the help and support of Kent Barnett, Tamar Elkeles and a great steering committee. Our goal was to bring GAAP-like standards to the learning profession, including a framework for measurement and reporting, common language, standard names and definitions, and guidance for selecting the right measures and reports. We also wanted to bring standard business practices to help practitioners run learning like a business which includes creating plans with specific, measurable goals, and then executing those plans with discipline to deliver the promised results.

This was a bigger undertaking than we anticipated, but with the help of many in the community and a very supportive board of directors, we have accomplished our initial objectives. The TDRP framework with its four reasons to measure, three types of measures and five types of reports now provides the common language so needed by the profession. We created a measures library with over 170 measures for learning and, with the help of Jeff Higgins from HCMI, over 700 measures for all aspects of HR to provide a clearing house for measures with recommended names and definitions. We created a measures library with over 50 sample reports. And we provided detailed guidance on the selection of the most appropriate measures and reports.

We published Measurement Demystified: Creating Your Measurement, Analytics, and Reporting Strategy in 2021 to share TDRP and the key principles of running learning like a business. We followed a year later with Measurement Demystified Field Guide to help practitioners apply the principles and framework to their own organization. And I provided leadership to the ISO group that created the first comprehensive standard on L&D metrics, published in June this year, further reinforcing the TDRP framework and drive toward common names, definitions and formulas.

This is our legacy so far and we are excited to have the opportunity to continue our work under the ROI Institute which has been our most steadfast partner and supporter over the last eleven years. Patti and Jack Phillps, as you know, are thought leaders in the field of measurement, and ROI Institute will be an excellent home for TDRP.  I will continue the monthly webinar series on TDRP, and Peggy and I will continue to facilitate the Measurement Demystified Workshops. I will also continue to offer webinars and workshops on the new ISO standard, and both of us will continue to speak and write about TDRP and running learning like a business. We are fortunate to have found a well-funded home for TDRP under the care of industry leaders like Jack and Patti.

There are many who have helped us along the way, including our board of directors who provided invaluable guidance, partners and sponsors who supported us financially, our CTR members who helped us with their membership dues, and members of the L&D community who have provided their encouragement and suggestions. Special thanks to Andy Vance, our Director of Operations, Mercy Ehrler for our communications, and Kevin Jones for his considerable help creating the reports library.

Last, I want to acknowledge Peggy for her partnership in the creation and evolution of TDRP and CTR. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with her and learning from her. We would not be where we are today without her many, many hours of unpaid dedication and service. It has been a labor of love for both of us, and we look forward to working with ROI Institute to continue the advancement of TDRP.

Best wishes to each of you for the holidays and the new year!
